Why UK Personal Loans Should Be Part of Your Portfolio

Your life's financial decisions need to be made wisely. Over time, you'll need to assemble a financial portfolio that provides you with income opportunities (such as investments), insurance for peace-of-mind, estate and tax planning contingencies, and retirement income strategies. As part of your financial portfolio, a UK personal loan may be the best option for you. Many people are deciding to acquire a UK personal loan to add to their financial portfolio.

Why do people add UK personal loans to their financial portfolio? There are several reasons why you might do so. One reason is to get control of debts that have gotten out of hand. If your spending has increased beyond your income, you may be racking up debts faster than you can pay them off. Getting a UK personal loan is way to consolidate your debts into one monthly amount that you can handle.

Another reason that people are turning to UK personal loans is for leverage. Perhaps they are looking to put an addition on their house but do not have the cash to readily do it. A loan can fill the gap and provide the funds necessary to put the addition on the house. That's leverage for two reasons: your home will suddenly become so much more useful to you, but also, when it comes time to sell, you will have increased the value of your home and enhanced how sellable it is to potential buyers.

A third reason that people are turning to UK personal loans is to get the nice things they deserve. Perhaps there is a car you've always wanted, or you'd like to fill your house with nice things. It would be great if your job provided you with the financial means to get them, but for many people, that's not the case. Instead, you may have to turn to loans in order to get the items you want. It's still an investment, though. It's an investment in the enjoyment of your life!

While getting a UK personal loan is simple, and there are many providers out there can get you a loan, it should not be approached lightly. Just as you probably consider very seriously all of the other factors in your financial portfolio you should also consider your UK personal loan with equal seriousness. After all, it's a financial tool just like your investment and insurance strategies. Is a UK personal loan the right financial strategy for you?

Celebrities - Most Popular Broadway Stars

Broadway is unique. In most venues, TV, movies, radio, etc., we never really get to see our favorite celebrities up close and personal. But Broadway is different. Depending on how much money you dished out for tickets, you may end up just a few feet away from your favorite Broadway star. This is something that can't be equaled by any other medium of entertainment, excluding of course sports events. But to get a courtside seat to a Knicks game is going to cost you thousands of dollars. Few real people can afford that.

In the meantime, Broadway has certainly given us our share of popular stars. One needs to look no farther than Julie Andrews who originated the role of Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady." Many people felt it was strange that she wasn't picked to do the movie version, especially since Audrey Hepburn couldn't even sing and had to have her vocals dubbed in. Certainly one of the strangest casting jobs in all of movie history.

If you're looking for a more recent example, there is always Michael Crawford who originated the role of "The Phantom Of The Opera" in the early 80s. Crawford's portrayal was so incredible that he was actually named a living legend because of it. Nobody has since sung "Music Of The Night" like Crawford, a song that has been literally linked with him for all eternity.

If you need an even more recent example of two people who will forever be linked with a show, you need look no farther than Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel who portrayed the good witch and the wicked witch respectively in the Broadway production of "Wicked." When it came time to hand out the Tony Awards for that year it was literally a toss up as to who was going to win between the two of them. Menzel ultimately ended up winning. It was said that these two were so perfect for their roles that there may never be anyone who comes close to pulling off a performance as great as the ones these two gave us.

And then of course there are the Broadway stars that transcend Broadway and grace just about every corner of stage and screen. There is no better example of this than Hugh Jackman who was simply brilliant in "The Boy From Oz" and "Oklahoma." Many of us also know him as Wolverine in the "X-Men" series of movies. Jackman is probably one of the most popular performers on stage today.

The list, of course goes on and on. There's currently Sara Ramirez and Christopher Sieber of "Spamalot," a Monty Python goof that is probably one of the funniest plays to come out in a very long time that mixes comedy with some of the best, and most hysterical, music around. Just one listen to "The Song That Goes Like This" is all you need to realize that Ramirez and Sieber are pure comic and musical geniuses.

And just think of it. These are people who you can actually see live.

It doesn't get any better than that.

The Pros and Cons of Taking a Lump Sum Settlement

You may come across such a situation, where you have won a compensation case. In such a case, you might be offered a choice as per the settlement, which is being made to you. So you might be offered a structured settlement that makes a sequence of regular payments over a fixed period of time as long as your agreement does not get fulfilled. You might also be offered the option of a lump sum payment.

It depends upon you own suitability and personal preferences, as to which option, you would choose. As it is, most people would advise to opt for a lump sum amount of payment. However, before, you reach a conclusion; you need to consider the pros and cons of the situation.

One of the major benefits of opting for a lump sum settlement instead of a structured settlement is that you have your money in hand. Thereafter, you are done with the situation and do not have to be bothered any more. You may then use this lump sum, in a way as it might seem fit for you. In case of larger lump sums you might simply invest them, in order to provide you with an income on a regular basis. It may also be used for modification of your house, so as to make your life comfortable.

Apart from that, personal circumstances are also a major factor in the kind of settlement, which suits you in such cases. So, in case, you or your loved one got disabled due to an accident, or got critically injured, requiring extensive medical expenses, then in that case, a lump sum payment would go towards purchasing of equipments, incurring medical expenses etc.

Similarly, in case you feel that you may no longer carry out the same career, then in that case, a lump sum payment would prove to be very helpful to you in changing jobs. You might also use it for setting up for yourself a business in case you feel so.

However, accepting a lump sum has its own disadvantages as well. The first and foremost disadvantage is that of lavish spending, or spending over unnecessary items. You may, end up spending the entire amount, with very little actually put up in for productive purposes.

Another major disadvantage is that of tax burden. As a matter of fact, a lump sum payment tends to attract more in terms of tax than in case of a string of structured settlements.

When it comes to deciding as to whether to opt for a lump sum payment, or structured settlements, you may consider the above points, along with your own suitability in regard to the issue.

The Alchemy of Art

Creative expression can transform painful reactions and situations, providing strength and understanding to change how we feel and interact with the world. Works of art made by others can remodel our inner realities.

Some think art needs to have that kind of impact to be worthwhile. Franz Kafka wrote, "I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us.. that affect us like a disaster... A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us."

Clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. Stephen Diamond says creativity "is one of humankind's healthiest inclinations, one of our greatest attributes," and explains in his book, "Anger, Madness, and the Daimonic: The Psychological Genesis of Violence, Evil, and Creativity," that our impulse to be creative "can be understood to some degree as the subjective struggle to give form, structure and constructive expression to inner and outer chaos and conflict... for meeting and redeeming one's devils and demons."

A number of actors have talked about this kind of "constructive expression." Sally Field was 17 when she won an audition for Gidget and later said, "Before, I had always felt so trapped. Acting saved my life."

Meryl Streep has said acting "has to do with working out private passions that are almost inscrutable to me.. I just get to work out all my murderous thoughts and my weaknesses and my failures and things I don't want to do as a parent or work out on the family. I need [acting] as an outlet. I love it. It feeds my imagination. It connects me to understanding."

Charlize Theron as a teen saw her mother shoot her father in self defense, and says work has helped her deal with it: "I think acting has healed me. I get to let it out. I get to say it and feel it in my work and I think that's why I don't go through my life walking with this thing, and suffering."

Like a number of other powerful actors, Charles Dutton has prison experience, in jail at 17 for murder. He developed an interest in theater, and after his release was accepted at the Yale School of Drama.

Speaking of prison, in her book Gifted Grownups: The Mixed Blessings of Extraordinary Potential, Marylou Kelly Streznewski says that gifted people "form a disproportionately larger portion of the prison population, perhaps as much as 20%... in contrast to the 3 to 5% of the general public. Is the conflict created by being 'different' connected to antisocial attitudes and behaviors? Do they get into trouble because it is fun? Or interesting? Or a clever game? Does crime have its roots in deep hurts?"

Those "deep hurts" can also fuel creative projects. Director Allison Anders made her film "Things Behind the Sun" as a way to deal with her rape. Native American painter Roxanne Chinook says her art helps healing from the traumas of her past: "The process of creating strengthens and restores my spirit."

Rosanne Cash deals with the recent deaths of both her mother and father, Johnny, in her new album "Black Cadillac," and noted in a Los Angeles Times interview: "I'm not the first person to make an album about death; I'm not even the first person in my family. My dad made music about his own death coming. He was an artist, and he could use his own life in an unsentimental way to make art. He was unafraid. For the rest of us that could be hard. But I understand it. And I learned from it."

The book Emotional Alchemy by Tara Bennet-Goleman is about dealing with negative thoughts and emotions that "disturbing our inner equilibrium," as the Dalai Lama writes in the foreword. Psychologist Bennet-Goleman says the antidote for such disturbance "is mindfulness, which involves being aware of our emotions without being ruled by them."

Creative expression, like psychotherapy and spiritual development, can be a way to become more aware, and also deal with high sensitivity.

Among other experts, Linda Kreger Silverman, PhD, director of the Gifted Development Center in Denver, says gifted and creative people tend to be emotionally sensitive throughout life.

That kind of intensity and sensitivity can lead to strong passions like anger. Dr. Diamond says there is "a very strong correlation between anger, rage and creativity. Most of us tend to view anger or rage negatively, associating it almost exclusively with destructiveness and violence. Certainly this correlation exists. But anger can also motivate constructive and creative behavior."

He continues, "The more conflict, the more rage, the more anxiety there is, the more the inner necessity to create. We must also bear in mind that gifted individuals.. feel this inner necessity even more intensely, and in some respects experience and give voice not only to their own demons but the collective daimonic as well."

In his book, Diamond writes about painter and sculptor Niki de St. Phalle, who was able to find "a fertile outlet for her ferocious rage toward men - and the dominant masculine art establishment" - in the creative expression of violence in her work: "Her famous 'shooting paintings' resulted from firing live ammunition at paint-filled, white-washed balloons mounted on a blank, virginal canvas.

"Thus, rather than becoming a crazed killer or vengeful victimizer of men," Dr. Diamond explains, "de St. Phalle's fury -- some of which stemmed from having been sexually abused by her father -- fostered a fecund creativity, that served her well throughout her prolific career."

Judith Orloff M.D. in her book Positive Energy, says creativity is "the mother of all energies, nurturer of your most alive self. It charges up every part of you. This energy rises from your own life force and from a larger spiritual flow."

Even if you aren't an "artist" - or don't even want to be identified that way - you can help improve your emotional health through creative expression: perform in a community theater play, write a memoir, take a watercolor class, or do something else to express your demons in positive ways.

Real Estate Agents - Spend Time and Money on Self-Promotion, Not Just on Advertising Homes

You advertise your individual listings, but are you properly marketing your own services? Since you're one of about one million Realtors working in the U.S. today, you won't have much of a career if you sit back and wait until customers and clients stumble over you.

You're going to have to pull them in yourself!

The first step is to consider why you are special.

Think about all you do for your customers and clients. You may very well offer something that others don't.

For instance:

You may speak a second language.      You might offer an airport pick-up service     Maybe you supply your clients with photo t-shirts that advertise their listing.     Perhaps you offer extensive virtual tours     You might even offer advice for solving some of your clients' pressing problems - like getting their   property clean and ready for sale.

Does every other agent in your market do all of the same things? And if they do, do they do those things as well as you do them?

The answer is probably no.  A lot of agents are trying to skim by with doing as little as possible.  I know that's not you, because if you weren't trying to make a better living and a better life for yourself you wouldn't be reading articles about marketing.

Begin by making lists of the services you perform. Make one for your buyers and one for your sellers.  While you're at it, highlight those tasks that are the most fun.

Other agents used to groan and roll their eyes when I said I enjoyed doing a market analysis.  Most people don't, but I like playing with numbers, so I thought it was fun.  I expect that made me do a better than average job.  Wouldn't you agree?

You might love research... digging into County records to find all you can learn about your new listing... or about another agent's listing that your customer wants to buy.

You might love learning all about neighborhoods so you can give potential buyers a complete rundown on services and recreational opportunities available.

Certain tasks are required with the job, but your customers might not know that.  The market analysis might fall into that category.  What else?

Look at how your competitors are advertising.  What do they stress?

Probably nothing at all!  Most Realtors merely say "I'm here," without giving a customer a single reason why they should be chosen over any other agent.

That means you can advertise a service that everyone gives and still look like you're the only one offering it!

Copywriting legend tells the story of how one writer took a faltering beer brewing company to the #1 position in the U.S. merely by explaining the brewing process.  It was exactly the same brewing process that everyone used, but no one else had mentioned it.  While he didn't say it, the public assumed that this company was the only one to use quality materials and exacting methods such as he described.

When their sales started to skyrocket the other brewers wanted to let the public know that they used the same methods, but knew they would merely look like copycats if they started shouting "Me too!"

So here's your "assignment" for the day:  First think about what you do that might be considered an extra service.  Then think about what everyone does that you do exceptionally well and your competitors aren't mentioning.

Then decide how you can work those items in to your self-promotion marketing.

Media Wars Continue Along Political Party Lines

What you can and cannot say is constantly changing, and I am not referring to the laws, although they too are changing due to the introduction of "hate speech" rules. When we talk about what you can and cannot say, we generally mean political correctness, and with a constantly changing society it is amazing how far things can swing. Currently, you do not dare criticize President Obama, but just a year ago it was in Vogue to call President Bush just about anything under the son, with bloggers carrying on for 1,000 word posts.

Well, now things are drastically lopsided or so, conservative talk show hosts say, as they find their dialogue, sponsorship, advertisers, and FCC looking over their shoulder constantly. Perhaps, rather than explain all this to you, it might be better to recommend a very good book that gives credible evidence to this reality, the book is:

"Censorship: The Threat to Silence Conservative Talk Radio; The Fairness Doctrine Exposed" by Brian Jennings; 2009.

The book discusses how Senator Jeff Bingaman wanted all talk radio to be balanced, of course, what he was really saying is that it is not right to allow a conservative talk show host to spout off without an equally powerful advocate of the liberal agenda to counter each and every topic. President Obama said he wants more diverse viewpoints on the radio, and now that he is President, he says that would only be fair.

The directive, FCC regulation, or Congressional Bill might end having the FCC sets up permanent advisory boards to insure that fairness is complied with, or so is one of the plans being floated. The author contends this is a Trojan Horse because, once they start scrutinizing it will ultimately have a chilling effect on free speech.

Further, it is asserted that Liberal Radio has failed in the past and cannot seem to compete with the audiences of conservative radio. And since there are few liberal radio personalities the politics are trying to level the playing field with regulation, something many who think about cringe. I think you might very much like this book.

Create your own personality

The great popularity of some online games can be explained by the fact that players can create a character, a new persona for themselves with which they can play a role. Some people find this dangerous and are afraid that players lose control of reality and lose their own personality in the process. In fact role playing doesn't create a variety of split personalities, it is just a very enjoyable distraction from day to day live. And yes, there are people who take online gaming too seriously and even can get addicted but their numbers are minuscule compared to the people who just have found a healthy and enjoyable hobby in playing these games.

Online gaming is extremely popular and will remain popular for a long time, because it has so much variety to it and it is also a way to meet people around the world. In the near future there will be no shortage of persons who enjoy spending time playing such games, and online gaming will continue to grow and grow in popularity.

Review of Mastering C++

Mastering C++ is a book written by K. R. Venugopal, T Ravishankar and Rajkumar. The book teaches the computer language C++ from the scratch to the professional level in a very friendly approach to the learning of the otherwise very difficult language.

First published in 1997, the book is recommended by most of the programmers. Basically written with C programmers in mind, this book caters to novices as well.

My brother advised me to read this book as I was desperately trying to learn the language but was unable to do so. At the first sight of the book, I thought," This book can't help anyone. This is just another book for engineers and is full of technical jargon."

Almost two years later I learned 'C' language from the book "Let Us C" by Yashwant Kanetkar. That book helped me clear the basic concepts of programming and get some technical jargon of computers, giving me the break I needed.

I learned the concepts of OOPs from the reference books of NIIT. After that, I was ready to learn C++ in detail. I started from chapter-one which helped me get acquainted with thinking in terms of OOPs. And the following chapters till chapter nine taught me the basics of C++ (non-OOPs) and from 10 to 19 the OOPs side of the language. Chapter 20 was based on the management of software projects.

So after learning it, I decided to write some programs and got disappointed because I could write only console based programs, as standard C++ does not specify the platform independent GUI programming.

Though Mastering C++ is good for learning, to gain expertise in language one must not rely on this book alone. Specialized books in the field of data structures, network programming, games development etc should also be read and kept as reference.

But as far as the question of the language is concerned, this book can be trusted as it teaches the language and its constructs in details. To become expert in any field the base should be firm. And this book does the job.

Best of luck for your adventures in C++.

Chiminea - Buy It for the Versatility of Enjoying Both Fireplace and Grill!

I recently visited friends who served me a dinner of grilled salmon and baked potatoes, done to perfection in their chiminea. The sun was setting and it was cooling down but overall a wonderful summer evening. We wanted to converse and eventually, eat our meal outdoors. The bonus: the chiminea offered us warmth and the smoke kept some of the mosquitoes at bay (some still got us). I must say, as well as being a great evening, that was one of the most delicious pieces of salmon I've ever eaten.

Chimineas date back to 17th century Mexico, where they were used as ovens to bake bread, were for cooking and also a source of heat. The chiminea was usually placed near a window or in the center of the hut to allow smoke to escape. They were made of clay since it was the most readily available material in the area. Today cast iron, copper and cast aluminum are the materials of choice for most chimineas although you can still purchase ones made of clay.

What to consider when choosing a chiminea

Chimineas really are for outdoor use only. If you need a fireplace for indoors this is not a good choice. So where to start? Chimineas are tall and narrow and really make sense if you don't have a large space but want an area for a fire. Don't go too small on the fire area though, or you will be chopping your wood into bite-sized chimenea pieces to fit the opening. If don't need portability you can go heavier and larger. You may also want to choose a model that has a grate that can be added or removed for cooking.

Some of the more popular patio and deck chimineas are made of cast iron. Choose from round, leaf, and designer cast iron chimineas designed for year round use. These cast iron fireplaces are designed to be sturdy and provide long lasting heat retention. Deck, patio and outdoor chimineas store easily and should be covered with a chiminea cover during the off season for protection. Copper and cast aluminum are also popular choices with the latter being the heaviest, most ornate and needing the least maintenance. See: http://www.outdoor-fireplaces-and-patio-heaters.com/chiminea.htm

Another consideration is the type of wood you burn. Best choice is pinon wood or other hardwoods. Pinon has the added advantage of helping to repel mosquitoes. Mesquite is also another option. Definitely stay away from pressure treated woods or anything that has been chemically treated - especially if you are planning to cook on the fire. Once you are ready to use your chiminea, start out with a small fire and build from there. And even if you don't live in the more fire prone regions of the country it is always a good idea to have some water or a fire extinguisher nearby, especially if you are in a small backyard.

Outdoor chiminea fireplaces are great addition for the pool area, garden, deck, or patio where you will be kept warm outside to enjoy the immense pleasures of a fire as well as cooking outdoors with friends or family.

Calculating Property Taxes Into Your Budget

Property tax is a tax assessed on real estate by the local government. The tax is based on the value of the property (including the land) that you own. This tax is mainly used by municipalities for repairing local roads, building schools and other similar services that help maintain the community.

Property tax is an annual local tax on real or personal property based on a tax rate. The value of the property is typically established by an Assessor, who is a county official. Whenever you are buying a piece of property, it's absolutely critical to take into consideration how much property tax will be associated with the property that you are about to purchase.

At times, individuals will fail to calculate this type of tax into their budget, thus failing to properly evaluate their ability to afford a home or investment property. It is highly recommended to have the property you are about to purchase fully assessed before the contract is finalized, this way you can ensure that you can afford the taxes on your property.

On the other hand, if you were caught unprepared for any reason and a property tax dispute arises, it's essential to retain the services of a knowledgeable attorney if you want to protect your interest in your home or property. An attorney will have full knowledge of the implications you are facing, as well as any applicable resolutions that can help you avoid serious ramifications associated with failing to pay your property taxes.

Keep in mind that these kind of taxes should always be figured into the final cost of purchasing a home. Being prepared and knowing how this will affect your bottom line is critical to selecting a home you can comfortably afford. When you are calculating the loan, any possible mortgage insurance, and interest, be sure to calculate your property tax liability at the same time. The amount of money you have to pay in taxes might ultimately be a deal breaker when you buy a house and they should be considered in your budget.

If you are contending with a tax issue regarding your property and you believe you would benefit from legal advice, a lawyer who specializes in real estate law will be your best bet. With a thorough knowledge of property law, your attorney can help you decide if a purchase is within your budget, and they can assist you with any tax disputes you may encounter. Having a legal professional on your side will be the best insurance you can have in any real estate matter.

How To Get And Create Brilliant Invention Ideas

Where do you get your ideas? That is one question that successful inventors get asked a lot. And it is really not an easy one to answer.

More so because the urge to create and invent usually comes from the depths of a person's heart and soul. However apart from the creative side, a good inventor needs a little balance and the ability to be able to careful gauge and judge whether their invention is really something that will one day prove to be useful or it is just a pipe dream that will never fly.

Which brings us to the most important test for any invention. This is a test that virtually every invention has to pass to hope to be anywhere near viable. It centers on the question whether it will solve any problem satisfactorily enough to be seen to be useful. It is very common to come across inventors who have created some flashy gadget that is able to accomplish some task but does not really solve any problem or improve the quality of life for anybody in any way. Even if you were to push such a product into the market, t would prove very difficult to sell or to find customers for it.

It is interesting to note here that numerous inventions have ended up serving a completely different purpose than what they were intended for. Viagra one of the hottest selling drugs of the modern age was tested as a medicinal solution to a totally different human ailment. Something to do with controlling high blood pressure in patients. Some alert analysts noticed it's interesting side effect an opened up a whole new industry and a valuable wonder drug for the manufacturer.

This is one reason why it is important that you approach the testing phase of your prototypes with an open mind. Prospects and customers too frequently pull off surprises and end up behaving totally differently from what you may have expected.

In other words brilliant invention ideas have often emerged out there in the market, dramatically turning upside down the intended purpose and use of the product.

How to Ollie on a Skateboard - Easy Step-By-Step Guide on How to Ollie on a Skateboard!

The Ollie is probably the first skateboard trick that every aspiring skateboarder learns. Based on the questions that I get, how to ollie on a skateboard happens to be the most frequently asked question by skateboarders once they have mastered riding the skateboard.

My advice is, don't rush into doing this trick if you are still new to skateboarding. Just like you have to learn to walk first before running, you have to learn to roll and balance on your skateboard first before attempting an ollie. Let me throw you some tips on How to Ollie on a Skateboard.

An ollie can be done while rolling or stationary at one place. It's the same trick but perhaps better to start with placing your skateboard on a carpet or grass and practice stationary ollie first before ollying while moving. After a day or two of practising a stationary ollie, move on to moving ollie. I bet a moving ollie looks cooler!

An ollie position requires you to place your back foot at the tail of your skateboard and your front foot in between the front and middle part of the skateboard. Make sure your front foot is not too much at the front or too close to your back foot. For a higher ollie, you need to bend your knees as low as possible. The lower you bend your knees, the higher you can jump!

Hit your back foot (at the tail of the skateboard) as hard as you could and the next second jump off the board with your back foot. It's a very quick move, hit the tail of your skateboard with your back foot and then pull-off your back foot into the air, jump!

What about your front foot? Imagine this, when you hit the tail of your skateboard, the skateboard will be lifted up as well. So use your front foot to guide the skateboard in the air, using your shoe and the skateboard's grip to drag the skateboard together with you to the direction that you want. Turn your front foot slightly inward to control the skateboard from flying off your grip. Then just land gracefully while bending your knees to avoid any knee injuries.

This is as simple as it can get guys!

Let me give you some important pointers on How to Ollie on a Skateboard;

1. Make sure you bend your knees as low as possible to be ready to jump. 2. Jump high! Folks, I can't emphasize this more, you need to jump high to do a perfect ollie. Try to hit your knees on the chest. But if this is the first time you are trying to ollie, and you are not sure on your landing, I would not recommend jumping high. 3. Keep your body straight - your shoulder aligned with your upper body. Don't bend forward or backward. 4. At the peak of your jump, level your feet on the board. 5. Don't forget to bend your knees when you land on the ground to cushion the shock and protect your knees. 6. Relax and enjoy the ollying! Don't focus too much on competing with your buddies.

Meet The Fockers (Movie Review)

Arguably the best comedy of 2004, Meet The Fockers is a hilarious, humor-filled marathon. Screenwriters Greg Glienna and Mary Ruth Clarke (who should have received Oscars for their flawless penmanship of Meet The Parents) turn in another blockbuster manuscript. But, as with its predecessor, Meet The Fockers wouldn't be the comedy masterpiece it is without the onscreen chemistry of Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.

Stiller, son of comedian Jerry Stiller (Seinfeld & King Of Queens), is a comic genius in his own right and has recently dominated the Hollywood box office with a string of smash spoof comedies such as There's Something About Mary (1998), Meet The Parents (2000), Zoolander (2001), Along Came Polly (2004), and Dodgeball (2004). De Niro, on the other hand, moves from the less serious roles of his early career into the comedy genre with an ease fully indicative of his enormous talent. Earlier comic roles in Wag The Dog (1997), Analyze This (1999), and Meet The Parents (2000) prepared movie-goers for the veteran actor's zinging one-liners. Throw Dustin Hoffman (who's also surprisingly funny) into the mix, and Meet The Fockers becomes one of those rare comedies that movie aficionados will want to see over and over again...

Meet The Fockers follows the continuing hardship of Gaylord "Greg" Focker (Ben Stiller), a male nurse whose future father-in-law, Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro), is a never-ending source of torment. A retired CIA operative, Jack is paranoid and controlling, and Greg's previous attempts to win over Jack's affections have always come up short. Now, Greg's life problems are multiplied by the imminent first meeting between his in-laws-to-be and his "birth parents".

Traveling by RV, Greg, his fiancée Pam (Teri Polo) and the rest of Byrnes family arrive in Florida where Bernie (Dustin Hoffman) and Roz Fockers' (Barbra Streisand) free-love, hippie lifestyle stands in stark contrast to Jack's serious façade. Throughout the visit, Greg works overtime to avoid having Jack learn of his mother's thriving sex therapy business, his own youthful indiscretion with the family maid, and his inability to supervise Jack Jr. for even a single afternoon. When Jack gets the idea that Greg fathered a child back in high school, he administers truth serum to Greg, sparking a series of events that is sure to make even the most ardent critic of ridiculous and juvenile movies (and this is one of them) burst forth in laughter...

Meet The Fockers is a rarity in that it's a sequel to a fairly successful film that manages to live up to the reputation of the original. Although Meet The Parents is probably the better film, Meet The Fockers is a truly hilarious comedy in its own right. Directed by Jay Roach (director of the Austin Powers franchise), Meet The Fockers is a highly entertaining comedy, deploying all the tricks of the trade - slap-stick, bathroom humor, zinging one-liners, classic "fish-out-of-water" sequences, and situation humor. By no means is it a cinema classic worthy of artistic awards and praise from sophisticated critics. But it delivers on its promise. It promises to make you laugh, and it performs that task with relative ease...
